In their home opener the Prince George's Community College Lady Owls beat Virginia University of Lynchburg Thursday night, 68-51.

There was an hour delay waiting for visiting team, Virginia University of Lynchburg, to get to the school after being stuck in traffic. The Lynchburg team has not fielded a team in almost 60 years, so this game was very important to them. The Lady Owls showed great sportsmanship in waiting for them so the game could be played. Originally scheduled to begin at 6pm, the game began at 7:15pm and the Lady Owls JoJoe Briscoe scored the first two points of the evening to get the Owls off to a good start as they made 11-2 run. Then Virginia Lynchburg's #2 and #20 closed the gap by busting the first two 3pointers of the game. The Lady Owls stepped up, making shot after shot. Lynchburg played a physical game throughout the night. #1 Dominique Person shot well from the free throw line making 4 in the first half. At the end of the first half the Owls led 37 to 21. Coneisha Smith and Velma McCormack made some very important free throws to keep the Owls in the lead. #23 Danielle Durant tacked on another 8 points in the second half. Things started to get sloppy with both teams dishing out foul after foul, and turnovers on behalf of both teams. Marissa Akins and Velma McCormack pulled down 8 rebounds each, while Person and Durant led the team in steals, with 4 and 3 respectively.

Great game, way to start the season ladies! Keep up the good work!
