BEL AIR, Md. - Prince George's Josiah Woodruff and Cecil's Brianna Thomas were named MD JUCO Student-Athletes of the Month for November, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Woodruff claimed the award for men's basketball while Thomas earned the honor for women's basketball.
Woodruff, a sophomore guard for the 6-2 Owls basketball squad, averaged 17.6 ppg to lead the team to a national ranking throughout most of the month of November. He netted 21 points on three different occasions, all three wins over Globe Institute of Technology, Butler and Frederick. In an overtime win over No. 2 Joliet, Woodruff buried a triple with one second remaining to force overtime. He currently ranks ninth in the conference in scoring and third in steals.
Thomas helped lead the Seahawk women's team to a 4-0 conference mark in November as a freshman point guard. She leads the conference in scoring with 21.2 points per game while handing out 5.7 assists per game and 4.5 steals per game. In a win over Baltimore City, Thomas netted a career-high 32 points to go along with six rebounds, five assists and four steals. She has totaled double digits in all games played in the month including at least 20 markers four times. She currently ranks sixth in assists and third in steals in the conference ranks.
